Micro-Teaching & Infographics
Case Study: Google Slides Training
Context: Instructors at a university in Cameroon were not prepared for the shift to online learning. Their computer skills were limited and they had varying degrees of English proficiency. They wanted help designing slides for instruction, and wanted a face-to-face training, but it was difficult to find a time all could meet given the size of the faculty. They did not have access to PowerPoint and do not use email frequently but they do use WhatsApp groups.
Training Solution: A series of screen casts accompanied by simple infographics was designed and sent via a WhatsApp group, where the instructors could ask follow-up questions. Additionally a weekly face-to-face class was provided for those who were able to attend to get feedback on their slides. By the end of the training the instructors would be able to transfer their content on to clear, well organized slides for use in online teaching.
Tools: Canva, Camtasia, Snagit
Results: All of the instructors who attended the face-to-face class demonstrated that they could make simple, clear slides.
